The third International Conference on Construction, Energy, Environment and Sustainability - CEES 2025 - took place in Bari, Italy, from 11 to 13 June 2025, organised by Itecons / University of Coimbra in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Bari.
Globally, we face resource scarcity, climate change and increasing urbanisation. More than ever, it is necessary to increase the sustainability of the built environment and construction activities.
As concerns about sustainability, efficiency and well-being continue to grow, the construction industry must not only continue to adopt new technologies, processes and materials, but also continue to address the many challenges facing the existing building stock. The CEES international conference aims to bring together researchers, engineers, planners, stakeholders and policy makers from the fields of construction, energy and the environment to address these challenges.
To achieve a sustainable built environment and sustainable construction activity, professionals from various fields need to work together, from researchers working on the development of innovative construction materials and technologies, building physics and energy performance, or the study of the environmental effects of artificial infrastructure, to those working towards the adoption of Industry 4.0 principles or those working on a more regional and urban scale, without neglecting social and economic aspects.
António Figueiredo, Romeu Vicente and Marcelo Langner, all from the University of Aveiro, attended this conference to present and publish the articles: ‘Performance analysis of an innovative radiant floor system incorporating two phase change materials: an experimental investigation’ and ‘Simulation-based assessment of the thermal performance of radiant floor systems’. The aim of this participation was to disseminate the results of the ILLIANCE project in the context of the development of a dynamic façade and radiant flooring. In addition, the trip also included a working meeting with the construction physics team at the University of Turin, which has been working on the topic of dynamic façades. This action was part of WP4 – Proj. 28 “Passive House Solutions”.
